What not to do...
Remember that show What Not to Wear? Well… I used to do the coaching equivalent: try to give people their entire Human Design chart in one session. But what I’ve learned—through coaching, practice, and my own design—is that real transformation doesn’t come from a firehose of info. It comes from the right insight at the right time.
In this episode, I’m sharing why I’ve restructured how I work with clients, how your Human Design is meant to unfold over time, and what I’ve been creating behind the scenes that I’m so excited to share.
Listen in if…
– You’ve ever felt overwhelmed by too much too fast
– You’re craving a slower, more grounded way to learn

Welcome back to Unfolding.

:I'm Erica Voell, a confidence
and wellbeing coach and a
3
:certified human design guide.
4
:And I work with women so that they
can say no to what drains them because
5
:they learn to trust their decisions
and understand their unique strengths.
6
:Together we clear old patterns and
they learn how they're designed
7
:to make confident decisions and
start putting themselves first.
8
:Because I believe your human design
is your roadmap and your permission to
9
:do things differently and confidently.
10
:So let's get into today's episode.
11
:Do you remember that show "What Not
to Wear" from the early two:
12
:On this show, there was Stacey
and Clinton, and they would do
13
:a big makeover of someone who
dressed how they really wanted to.
14
:And honestly, I think they made the
guests look more frumpy than normal.
15
:And there's a part of me that loved
it, and there was a part of me that
16
:absolutely hated the show because I
saw myself in so many of those people.
17
:And the guests were overwhelmed
with the clothes that they "should"
18
:wear and the hairstyle that
they suddenly had to maintain.
19
:And it was usually pretty obvious
that there was an underlying mental
20
:health issue for a lot of the guests.
21
:I couldn't help but think of this
show as I was starting to write
22
:this podcast episode because.
23
:If you ambush people with information
too quickly, it doesn't resonate.
24
:I mean, think of your first day on the job
or the first day of a new class, and the
25
:teacher's telling you everything you need.
26
:You need to learn or you're going
to learn over that semester, and you
27
:feel your brain melting from that.
28
:Too much information.
29
:And that describes how sometimes I get
so caught up in sharing about human
30
:design that I actually overwhelm people.
31
:So recently I was giving a human design
reading at a retreat, and about halfway
32
:through one of the other retreat hosts
who was sitting there said to the person
33
:I was reading for, is that too much?
34
:Is this too much information?
35
:And I paused because she was not wrong.
36
:I love going so deep and I was going
deeper than I normally do in a first
37
:reading, but the person was asking such
thoughtful and engaging questions that I
38
:was just trusting the moment and going
with it, not realizing how much deeper I
39
:had gone and how I was overwhelming her.
40
:So it really reminded me how
much I love sharing human design.
41
:But I can give you too much information.
42
:But I also love those aha moments
that land really deep for people.
43
:And I've noticed it's actually
why people choose to work with me.
44
:They're ready to go deep.
45
:They want transformation.
46
:They don't want just surface level tips.
47
:They don't want a reading that
they're gonna forget in two hours.
48
:They want to use this in their life.
49
:In human design.
50
:I'm a 5 /1 profile, which is a.
51
:Problem- solver, and investigator,
and when I am lit up about something,
52
:I can go so deep into a rabbit hole
that you might not see me for days.
53
:I'm really designed to help people
solve problems and uncover patterns,
54
:especially the ones quietly draining
their energy or loudly running the
55
:show and how I'm supposed to ground
myself, which is my Gate 35 in my chart.
56
:That's part of the throat center.
57
:It's all about sharing what I've
learned through lived experience.
58
:Just ask my family.
59
:I love sharing what I'm learning.
60
:I'll tell you about an article I've read.
61
:I'll tell you about a show I've watched.
62
:I'll tell you about a YouTube video.
63
:I've watched and I can sometimes see my
daughter's eyes rolling into the back
64
:of our head 'cause she's like, oh gosh.
65
:More from mom.
66
:So here's a challenge that I have
learned to navigate as a coach.
67
:Transformation doesn't happen
through information overload.
68
:It actually happens at the right
time with the right insight, but
69
:also integration and allowing people
to take it in as they're ready.
70
:So I've really restructured how I
work with clients several times.
71
:I used to do these one hour sessions.
72
:They were totally packed with information.
73
:We would talk about as many parts
of the chart as I could possibly
74
:fit in in an hour or an hour and a
half, because I wanted everybody to
75
:get the most bang for their buck.
76
:And I also noticed about 40 minutes
in that there would be this eye
77
:glaze that would happen, and I would
notice that I was losing my clients.
78
:So as I've started to develop my coaching
practice, I realized I had to take a
79
:longer term relationship, take it over
time, and that allowed us to go deep,
80
:but not in one hour info dump, where
the client left feeling completely
81
:overwhelmed and had no idea how to
apply human design to their real life.
82
:So now my sessions are eight sessions,
so they're getting eight hours.
83
:In addition to other content that
I provide between our sessions.
84
:And that's why I think I have fallen
in love with sharing through private
85
:podcasts and personalized audio lessons.
86
:'cause you can take them as you're ready.
87
:They're thoughtful, they're self-paced,
and then they give you the space
88
:to let things sink in, and they
meet you exactly where you are.
89
:And if you need to listen on repeat, you
can listen on repeat because a lot of us
90
:learn by listening over and over and over.
91
:So as it turns out, I'm actually sharing
the way I'm designed to work, and there'll
92
:be more coming soon on something I
have been working on behind the scenes.
93
:And so for now, I will
leave you with this.
94
:You are not too much.
95
:You are not behind.
96
:You are exactly where you're meant to be.
97
:You are ready for what you
need now and when you're ready
98
:to go deeper, I've got you.
